Ads prioritisation

Ads prioritisation

Our platform selects the advertising it displays from the pool of ads assigned to a particular zone. One way to impact that process is through the ads prioritisation. These are options to set the priority are:

  • Weight
  • Rate
  • Top rate
  • Second rate

We'll start by discussing the Weight and Rate options. They both adopt weighted-random logic, and they are quite similar.

As a result, every campaign or advertisement has a chance to be seen. Users can modify the probability of that by changing the Weight property in their settings. Additionally, if you think a campaign's Rate is more appropriate for your company, you can utilise it as Weight. Higher indicates a higher priority in both situations.

With the top rate approach, the bidding is always won by the campaigns or advertisements with the highest rate. Lower bidding campaigns and advertisements could not see any traffic in this situation (subject to frequency capping, limits, and traffic volume available).

If you choose Second Rate, the highest bidder in an online auction is the winner, but the sale price is not equivalent to that bid. Instead, it matches the bid of the rival with the second-highest rate. For instance, if you place a bid of $2 and the preceding bidder puts an offer of $1.5, you will win the auction but only be charged $1.5, not $2, as with the Top Rate priority.

For the RTB/XML-feed integration in particular, Top Rate and Second Rate options were implemented. As a result, unless you truly understand how they work, we do not recommend deploying them on usual zones and advertisements.

How to configure ads prioritisation

Go to the zone's tab in the Publisher / SSP section to choose one of the prioritisation types:

In an online auction, the highest bidder wins if you select Second Rate, but the sale price is not equal to that bid. Instead, it equals the bid made by the rival with the second-highest rate. You would win the auction but only be charged $1.5, not $2, as with the Top Rate priority, if you placed a bid of $2 and the previous bidder placed a bid of $1.5.

Additionally, you may manually configure each zone's ad prioritisation. Configuring its default value in the Settings menu is another method.
